Thursday, April 25, Shakti Worship Shaktheyam. To seek the ultimate bliss, Shakti worshippers or Shaktas follow a system of beliefs and practices in Tantra.
Maya or illusion separates opposites like male and female. On reaching this ultimate bliss, the sadhaka spiritual seeker experiences the ultimate joy of the union with the creator within oneself. When aroused, this energy reaches the Supreme Energy or the Macrocosm. Thus microcosm merges with macrocosm to form a continuous field of energy, the cosmic consciousness. This indivisible energy is called Parashakthi.
Thus shakti puja is performed to invoke the flow of energy and awaken the spirit within. This can be done by Tantric or Vedic rituals. There are different disciplines in Tantra. Normal practice comprises meditation or yoga; visualization of the deity; chanting of sacred hymns; and use of yantras or mystic symbols.
As in yoga, Tantra also focuses on the awakening of the inherent energy which lies coiled like a serpent. These chakras are:. Muladhara at the base of the spine from where Kundalini starts its upward journey. Svadhisthana: charka associated with reproductive organs. Manipura: manifested as action, will, anger, laughter etc. Anahata: at the centre of the chest, Associated with giving and receiving love.
Visudha: at the larynx region. Governs your ability to communicate. Ajna: Referred to as third eye. Sahasrara: in the crown governing the pineal gland. This is yet to be recognized in modern medicine. True realization of the infinite bliss is there only when a person experiences illumination in all planes, even in the lowest.
Ajna chakrandaralastha Rudra grandhi vibhedini. Sahasrarambujaruda sudha sarabhivarshini. Tatillathaa samaruchi shatchakropari samsthithaa.
However, Shakti Puja in Tantra can be dangerous if not practiced properly and under the strict guidance of a competent guru as it encompasses some other secret rituals too. Austere discipline and moral conduct are important factors of Tantra practice which calls for extensive meditative practice.Continued from Part One. And, in his Guptavati, he reveres Devi Mahatmya as a mantra of the Devi, embodying her divine presence. The Tantra School recognizes Vac as the embodiment of the Shakthi. It is the bridge between the physical and the formless Reality. It is the harmonious and powerful union of mind Manas and word Vac.
Its subtle sounds attempt to visualize the un-differentiated divine principle. Mantra is beyond intellect. Mantra is said to connect, in a very special way, the objective and subjective aspects of reality. The Mantra, in its sublime form, is rooted in pure consciousness.
In its next stage, it unites harmoniously with the mind. Here, it is union of mind Manas and word Vac. The silent form of mantra is said to be superior to the whispered upamasu utterance. If an idol or a Yantra is the material Sthula form of the Goddess, the Mantra is her subtle form Sukshma-rupa. And, beyond that is the Parathe contemplation, absorption into the very essence of the Devi.
It is said; mantra gives expression to the identity of the name abhidana with the object of contemplation abhideya. It is both the means upaya and the end upeya. The reverse is said to be the process of Japa reciting or muttering the mantra. Ordinarily, Japa starts in Vaikhari form vocal, muttering. The efficacy of the Japa does depend on the will, the dedication and the attentiveness of the person performing the Japa. After long years of constant practice, done with devotion and commitment, an extraordinary thing happens.
Now, the Japa no longer depends on the will or the state of activity of the practitioner. It seeps into his consciousness; and, it goes on automatically, ceaselessly and inwardly without any effort of the person, whether he is awake or asleep. Such instinctive and continuous recitation is called Ajapa-japa. When this proceeds for a long-time, it is said; the consciousness moves upward uccharana and becomes one with the object of her or his devotion.
The term Ajapa-japa is also explained in another manner. A person is said to inhale and exhale 21, times during a day and night. Thus, the Hamsa mantra is repeated Japa by everyone, each day, continuously, spontaneously without any effort, with every round of breathing in and out.
And, this also is called Ajapa-japa. The Devi Mahatmya is treated like a Vedic hymn, rik or a mantra. The first Chapter is compared to Rig-Veda. And, the whole text is treated like one Maha mantra. Bhaskararaya concludes just as there is no difference between the cause karana and the effect karya ; between the object signified Vachya and the word which signifies Vachaka ; and between Brahman and the universe Brahmani jagat ithyartha, abedho iti seshahasimilarly this Vidya Devi Mahatmya of the Devi is identical with her.Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram is really blessed to have conducted the global online Devi Mahatmyam Parayanam for the last 9 nine days of this Vasanta Navaratri culminating with Lalitha Sahasranamam and Trisati on the 10th day with the Sankalpam for Global healing and well-being.
Seeing the outpour from people for the Viswa Svastya Chandi Parayanam on March 22nd, we decided to host this 10 day event in a very short time. With the blessings of our Gurumandala and Goddess Chandika Mahalakshmi, I am very happy to let you know that, we have chanted more than 2, Devi Mahatmyam Parayanam, completed more than 10 lakhs of Navakshari Japam and had people joining the Parayanam by listening to it entirely with complete devotion.
None of this would have been possible without the outpouring support and participation of devotees from across the globe. This Vasanta Navartri was truly a special event -- First time we have ever conducted Devi Mahatmyam parayanam for nine days completely online.
Although we all are geographically separated, it felt as if we were together in front of Devi chanting in unison. In the end, all of us have experienced true surrender, true bhakthi, true belief and our immense love for the Divine Mother.
As we look back, who would have even imagined in their dreams, the degree change in our lives - life before Covid and after Covid. Social distancing, Janata curfew, Shelter in place have become routine aspects of our lives and will continue to be for some more time to come.
Just as Suratha and Vysya did penance and worshipped Chandika Mahalakshmi in the forests far away from hustle and bustle of life, all of us could do the Paarayanam as a tapasya in isolation with Swaatmaanubhuti.
Keeping my personal and family commitments aside, I just followed the direction of my Guru who always insisted on the importance of participating in a yegna performed for Loka Kalyanam.
Until I reached the temple, I was unaware of the strict restrictions that all ritwicks needed to follow for those 15 days. We had to stay within temple premises without any kind of communication with the outside world. We were not allowed to talk unless it was really required. The first day was a bit hard but at the end of the first day we were all fully energized and looked forward to the next day's events.
Infact, we all felt sad on the final day and wished the Pujas and homams continued further. The same kind of feeling everyone got at the end of this Vasanta Navaratri Parayanams. I never imagined that after 32 years, during the same Vasanta Navaratri, Chandi Paarayanam, Japams and Srividya Navavarana Puja would be performed in Ekantha isolation during this period of lockdown in Bangalore.
I strongly believe that when we help others by forgetting our own problems and challenges, it will in turn ease ours. I pray to our Guru Parampara and Chandika Mahalakshmi to bless each one of you who have taken the time to join us in the Parayanam session leaving aside all challenges you may have had. Everyone felt as though we have transcended the physical distance. This year, as many of you pointed out, everyone had the divine darshan of Maha Shodashi and Sri Yegnarathnam Dikshithar from Chennai Ashram visiting their houses and blessing us all on the ninth day!
To summarize, the 10 days of Vasanta Navaratri have brought us all spiritually closer and have made us all mentally stronger with the firm belief that Devi will take care of us. Your inputs will help us plan our future activities. Children aged 6 - 10 from all over the world will be singing Durga Saptasloki set in a simple tune 36 times. It is indeed the divine grace of our revered Guru Sri Chidanandanatha that continues to guide the devotees in the kind of tasks that were very close to his heart and on which he spent his entire life. Propagating the tenets of Srividya and discussing and bringing about a unified approach to the two aspects thereof — the ritualistic and the philosophical, was a task that was the mainstay of his life.
Having been initiated into Srividya in the yearwhen he was 29 years of age, a the lotus hands of Sri Guhanandanatha at the holy Allahabad, on the auspicious Mahodaya occasion, he began his Upasana.
After this period, Upasana and propagation of Srividya became his sole mission in life. If we look at the benefits that have accrued to a large number of eligible disciples through initiation into this holy science by Sri Chidanandanatha, we would be wonderstruck. At the end of his sojourn, the Acharya asked him how he enjoyed his stay there. Then the Acharya quizzed him as to how he knew Brahmananda and whether he had experienced it before and if he had not, how he could recognize it.
The message is that there is a natural state of pleasure, which is the real nature of the atman and when that is felt, the one who experiences it recognizes it as his natural state. All other pleasures that are acquired through the worldly experiences are artificial or Kritrima. These are temporary and ephemeral and so do not last. The end of every such experience is pain causing. In his brilliant introduction to the Brahma sutra Bhashyas edited by Mahamahopadhyaya Anantakrishna Shastrigal, the Shankaracharya of Govardhana Peetham of Puri establishes Sat, chit, ananda, Moksha and Ishana suzerainty as the natural state of the soul in every human being.
The absolute and eternal pleasure — Brahmananda, is something, which is natural and is referred to as Moksha. This is generally translated as liberation.Argument worksheet
To attain Kama, one needs Artha or wealth. That wealth must be acquired by dharma, another difficult but frequently and commonly used word. This, Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are referred to as the goals of human life.
The understanding of these four terms will give one a broad indication of the purpose of all philosophical and material pursuits. This being so, it becomes the religious duty of every individual to practice Dharma in its proper spirit, acquire wealth and apply that for attaining the last two.
Hindu scriptures prescribe three different but intertwining paths to attain liberation and these are: karma, Bhakti and Jnana.
The Bhakti path is where the individual is given the choice of a form of the Divine Entity to contemplate, worship, meditate, and perform Pooja etc. The Absolute that is formless, is allowed to be conceived of as having a form to enable the human mind to hold on to something and make progress in the Bhakti route.
This Bhakti also consists of three distinct groups of activities:. The practice of Bhakti in all its three forms constitutes Upasana.Well, to begin with They are Samayacharam, Dakshinacharam, Kaulaacharam and Vamacharam. Of these, Samayacharam and Dakshinacharam are the "safest" methods, and strictly adhere to Vedic methods of worship.
They focus more on the idols of Amba, the Sri Chakram et al Vamacharam and Kaulacharam are purely tantric methods, and often use modes of worship that may not be entirely sanctioned by the Vedas. Vamacharam may involve "frightening" practices, but it mainly focuses Amba as the Kundalini Shakti all the other methods do the same, but vamacharam does it very noticeably. It compulsorily requires guidance and supervision. It might be the most easy rewarding than all the other modes of worshipits like the atomic power Kaulaacharam in turn, is characterised by the panchamakaras.
And this is what my friend explained to me about the panchamakaras :. They form part of a rite performed by those of the class called Viras heroes. According to the tradition, practitioners fall into three classes: divya divinevira heroic and pashu beastlike. Tantric Methods do seem completely crazy and for the common man its highly misleading Once you get distracted or disillusioned while following the practices involved, the entire procedure may mean nothing at all. Now to summarise Kaula Marga in one line : the panchamakaras are performed with the bhavana that the person or people involved is Amba herself, and the Cosmic form is being looked at in a microcosmic manner, that is in the other person.Folder redirection missing files
In more plain words, it means that all the rituals here are performedwith the philosophy that Amba is present in oneselfand the rituals are being offered as service to the goddess When this feeling is not there. But once the practioner realises the philosophy behind Kaula Marga, it becomes more internal than external, kaula in a later stage proceeds to become more samaya or dakshina. So here comes the ultimate question There have been people who misunderstood religion to the worst possible extent, the result is what we see all around us : bloodshed.
